Development of Stable Mixed Microbiota for High Yield Power to Methane Conversion

The performance of a mixed microbial community was tested in lab-scale power-to-methane reactors at 55 °C. main aim to uncover the responses starvation and stoichiometric H2/CO2 supply as sole substrate. Fed-batch were inoculated with fermentation effluent thermophilic biogas plant. Various volumes pure gas mixtures injected into headspace daily process parameters followed. Gas composition measured by gas-chromatography, replaced N2 prior injection. Total DNA samples, collected beginning end (day 71), analyzed metagenome sequencing. Low levels H2 triggered immediate CH4 evolution utilizing CO2/HCO3− dissolved effluent. Biomethanation continued when supplied. On contrary, biomethane formation inhibited higher initial doses concomitant acetate indicated homoacetogenesis. Biomethane production started upon delivery H2/CO2. fed-batch operational mode allowed high injection consumption rates albeit intermittent operation conditions. Methane enriched up 95% content rate attained remarkable 1000 mL·L−1·d−1. spontaneously selected genus Methanothermobacter cultures.
